Behold the latest A4. When you see one, how do identify it? Is it a big A3? Or is the A3 a little A4? Or deep down, is this really just an A4 Allroad sedan with no sport skirt?

A4 is an A4. A3 is a nice hatchback that has been poorly adapted into a sedan for the US market.

The A3 and A4 are fundamentally different cars because the A3 has a transverse engine layout while the A4 has the traditional Audi whackadoo longitudinal/transaxle layout shared with the late-60s Oldsmobile Toronado, and assorted mid/late-90s Acura models.

I know most people hate it, but I like the uniformity of Audis. Granted that I’m only interested in the S/RS cars. It’s a good looking suit, even though they’re all wearing the same one in slightly different sizes.
